I really like this piece. I can even see how he did it, what gets me is how he get clean lines slicing wood that thick and at odd angles

I don't think it is at odd angles, it is just the curve of the bowl that creates that appearance. Very beautiful work. I wish I could get a rim like that.

No, you can tell he use wedged shaped pieces check the thickness of the pieces at the bottom and the top of the middle slabs.

He did mention that he made a special jig. I assume it was to get the angles. The segments are wedge shape. He has a great deal of patience as well as skill when it comes to high precision/anal retentive stuff like this.
