Here is my latest hollow form. It is made from Maple Burl and Black Walnut. The hollow form is 5 3/4" tall, 4 3/4" in diameter. The collar is 1 3/4" in diameter at it's widest and 1 1/4" at it's top. The lid is made from black walnut, maple burl and then black walnut. The lid starts at 1 1/4" in diameter and stands 3 5/8" above the hollow form. I have sanded to 4000 grit and am applying wipe on poly. I still need to add a couple more layers of poly, buff and wax and then sign. Your comments suggestions are requested and would be greatly appreciated.
The shape & color of the form is exquisite but I personally think the distance between the top of the finial & the bead in the middle is a little to long. it is a great piece.
That is some terrific grain in that burl. It is a very striking piece. I like the shape on the form and I think you did a great job with proportions and on the curve on side from the base to the top. At first I wasn't crazy about the dome shape of the finial base, but the more I looked at it I was convinced it added to and complimented the piece. I'm sure your customer will be happy. Nice Job.
Very nice and I like the way you made the top, I like the height and shape of the lid instead of being short or flat. The color is just fantastic and the blend of the two woods are outstanding, they go well together, the entire piece is just beautiful. Well done on another masterpiece.Wizzy
Great piece. I'm sure your customer will love it. If I have to comment any part of it it would be the center bead. In my eye it would be just a tad large. That's only my opinion though. It is a commission piece and the customer is really the only one that counts. 8-)
Why did you quit at 4000 grit?
Seriously, I too think the first leg of the finial a bit long but it does NOT hurt the piece more than 50 cents.
Great job again.
