I got a whole pickup load of walnut logs a few weeks ago. Most is green but there were a few smaller dead branches. I used a piece tonight to practice hollowing. 2.75" h x 3.5" w. It's very pretty wood.
Briwax finish.
Nice job Curt, the form is great and the wood is nice too. Looks like the pratice is paying off. Now the 2 questions I always ask ...how big is the opening and how thin are the walls? (I always have to push )
Thanks everyone.
Chris the opening is 1". That's about the diameter of the big old clunky Sorby Hollower with the round scraper in it. The walls are about 3/16" near the top to 5/16" at the base. The shape is just the result of what was left after getting through the bark.
