Yesterday I noticed that Dominic Greco joined our little group, so I had to post this. He and I corresponeded on pen finishes not to long ago, and I used that process on this pen. It's just a product from PSI called 'Gloss Sealer', a lacquer based friction drying sealer. Leaves a nice finish, less plasticy than a lot I've used. Leaves a warmer look. Wood is tulip.
Gil, this is a PSI 'Polaris' kit with satin chrome plating. There are other similar kits available by the other kit suppliers. The top twists to expose the ball point.
That's the stuff. They sell three formulas, Dominic had tried them all and recommended the Gloss Sealer. They kind of look old-fashioned, a plain can with a sticker on it. Works well though.
