This is a piece of NIP that I've been working on for some time. It has a 60 coat tung oil finish and sanded with micromesh. A wonderful gentleman purchased it last weekend for his sister.
60 coats. I don't know that Ron Kent himself does that many. Looks wonderful. Just out of curiosity, how long did that take? I like your shape and the translucency is fabulous. I'm sure that the lady who wound up with it will cherish it for years to come. 8-)
It is fabulous!!!! This has to be one of my all time favorites. I honestly don't know what NIP is, but it is nice. Was any buffing done or just the tung oil?
Thanks guys, I've been working on the finish for about 6 months. I would put one coat on per day for about a week and let it dry for a week. Then I buffed with micromesh through to 12K. Then I let it sit for a week or 2 and start again. Sounds crazy but I just love the feel of the wood in my hands.
What a beautiful piece...You must have been proud to have been the creator of that one! I know I would be. I also love the translucency
