Nothing spectacular here, this is just a small hollow form. But I thought the wood was nice, especially for Oak. This is Gambel Oak from my backyard, turned with the pith in the center, 6.5" x 3.5" with danish oil finish
Never heard of gambel oak either. Is it an ornamental type from a nursery or something natural from your area? Very nice piece Curt. Love the grain in that HF!..Bill..
Thanks everyone! The Gambel Oak grows along the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains here in Utah. This piece came from a small tree in my yard that broke in a snow storm last winter. But they bulldoze these trees to make way for housing subdivisions around here and you can usually get all you want. Most of it that gets any size over about 6" dia gets hollow inside though. Sometimes you can get some good stuff though. http://extension.usu.edu/range/Woody/gambeloak.htm
