This box is made out of a Hickory base with a Walnut Lid. The lid is eccentric turned, and attached with a small metal rod that it pivots on. There is also a small rod at the front to hold the lid closed.
Looks nice kryon. This is one of those pieces that I need to see in person in order to understand what it is that you've done. I'm assuming that you have to lift the lid to get it off/on the front rod?
Rev,
You have to lift the front of the box off of the latch, and then pivot it. This idea is no where close to what I originally planned, but I am happy with the results after getting some finish on it.
Chris,
That was the idea... To make it look like a toadstool.
Another great idea on how to attach the lid. That hickory it pretty by itself with the sapwood and heartwood and then the walnut sets it off nice too. A stool every toad would be envious of.
The hickory is very pretty, although I think the lid kind of overwhelms the piece. But very interesting nonetheless, and nice job on the hinge--I like that!
