Nice work Mark and I like the bit, gives you the impression its like that all the way through, very well thought out, you did great if you ask me! Wizzy
I'm not embarrased to ask this...how did you do this piece? the texture, different colors and carvings in the centre area? I'm not that good yet, and want to be "ducated"...lol. Please do tell!

Mark, evidently someone liked your plate enough to take a bite out of it. It is rather "yummy-lookin'."
Thanks guy's! Bert, the front and back surfaces were contoured first. Then I took a parting tool and cut a groove 5/8" deep to form the center detail. Then I turned the center plug round. A hook tool was used to hollow out the inside of the platter as much as possible. I'd say 4 to 4-1/2" of the inside is hollow. The ring was textured with a sorby texturing tool, then I spray painted the texture and center detail with flat black enamel. A skew was used to define the texture and then a scraper on both sides of the texture to get rid of the paint.then I turned the small ring and bead in the center to remove the paint. A dremel tool was used to texture the gilded area. I sprayed the face with lacquer to seal the wood, then the copper leaf was applied. Afterwards, several more coats of lacquer were added to finish it.
cool piece. I like the bit I dont think it would be as interesting if it were just a round piece, kinda sets it off and draws you eye off the center and makes you look at the whole piece and gives you more then just a plain edge to look at. and as Wizzy said "gives you the impression its like that all the way through" very nice work
