Thanks yakima! It actually works a little better if you have a mix of pebbles and dust, plus I added in little bits of gold leafing in the mix. I got this idea from Stephen Hatcher, check out his page for full details http://www.stephenhatcher.com/index.php?n=1 . Also did you you notice what I used to prop the piece on? It is a block of raspberries and cream alabaster, can't wait to get in to that.

Thanks bubbatd! don't be afraid to break away from your comfort zone! also look around the net for other woodturners that impress you, and try to do your own rendition of their work. in time you will develop your own style.
