Wood was pithy, but I like opening it to reveal the Spalding. It was left over from Hurrican Isabel damage, but even so it was still a little wet inside to my surprise (Spalted, Pithy, and wet?). I had to do a lot of sanding in the end grain, but was able to get all marks out. Used Salad bowl finish. It was my first attempt at a functional bowl and I learned a lot for next time.
It does have a functional look about it, and I mean that in a positive sense. Given the aforementioned, I like the thickness of the walls. You also executed that classic shape very well. Very nice piece!
Jim must have been reading my mind when he wrote his post. Nice job all around. You didn't give us any measurements. How tall, wide, thick? These are the questions turners care care about.
