Yep, what he said,
the wood's grain is the feature here. The shape and the rim detail do a nice job of presenting and accenting the wood without competing for attention. Makes it interesting.

There's an interesting trick of the light going on here (I think). The bottom on the right seems to have a flat spot in the curve that is not carried over on the bottom left. I've been staring at this trying to figure out if it's the shadow or just my imagination.

I agree, but I think It is shadow. Larry, of all the pieces of yours I've seen this is my favorite. Simple, elegant, somewhat understated. 4.5 stars Smile

Thanks guys much appreciated. I handled the piece looking for the flat spot and couldn't find it so think it was just a shaddow

Knowing your work I had no doubt it was a photo illusion. I've had some pics do the same thing, but usually only when I was using one light source. It would be nice to understand it but I probably ain't that smart.
