12"x2" Bowl turned from wet Madrone. Bottom two views are just off the lathe. Top view is 24 hrs later. Man does this stuff warp. I didn't do any thing to try to stop it from moving or to dry the bowl. Just turned it and let it do it's own thing.
How much fun is that? I assume that you've taken it to the belt sander and flattened out the bottom. Other than that, I hope that it has remained about like what I am seeing. I've had a bunch of stuff move on me, but none like that. I bet you get a lot of folks asking "How did you do that?"
That is amazing and so cool looking and to think it did that without cracking? How thin are the walls? and it does not look like the bottom is flattened at all.
Love it Gary! The "off the lathe" pics show a great form and some gorgeous figure but the warped view is the best. I love how Madrone does this. Great piece.
How cool is that! I think the before and after shots make it all the more impressive. I have never worked madrone, but can't believe it doesn't crack, how thin were the walls?
It is a very fun wood to turn. Turns great green, but moves like crazy.. The bowl was turned to less then 1/8", but I have also turned thicker pieces that didn"t crack. As it warps it devolops a great texture also. Gary
