Thanks all, and Gnut that was just another of the pieces we got together, I just look at how a piece will best look after all the excess is turned away and sometimes it works out.
I sand to 400 grit, then use sanding sealer. come back to it another day sand 400 then 600 either I then use white diamond and carnuba and buff. Or if lots of inclusions that cant be buffed I use wipe on poly and then knock down the finish a bit with steel wool. I am always playing with other finishes, but those are my most common
When I see pieces like this the first question that comes to mind is how it stayed together. It seems whenever I turn a piece of wood with a defect it blows apart. You certainly turned a beautiful piece, Larry. This is a winner!
