Thanks everyone!
Gil the cocobolo top is glued in but the stopper comes out. The top was turned round to fit and concave on the bottom side and then glued in place and turned on the top.
So, CF what I am hearing is this is essentially a 2 piece hollow form with a lid? I like the design and form, but I'm not so sure about the color combinations. The cocobolo keeps pulling my eye away from the natural edge and you did such a good job on it that it's a shame to distract from it. Maybe next time a lid and bowl that match with a different colored stopper?
The form on the bowl is great, especially since it looks like the rim is lower on the front side. Not an easy bowl to turn. Nice work overall, you've really come a long way in the past few months, either that or you've been hiding all the really cool stuff. Keep up the good work.
Actually Chris, this was going to be my piece for the current challenge. It was supposed to be a lidded box. I liked the grain pattern in the top so I didn't want to cut too much of it away for a bigger lid. I ended up with more of a stopper than a lid. But two things made me decide to do another attempt. First was the lame way I came up with for attaching the stopper. Second was my wife made pretty much the same comment as you, the two woods don't compliment each other very well. The more I looked at it the more I could see what she (and you) meant. Still struggling with the "attached lid".
