Jerry, your work becomes more and more sophisticated. This is a marvelous piece with many interesting features that you have to look at more than once to appreciate. The effect that the fluting gives to the annular rings in the heartwood is most remarkable. The texturing of the sapwood reminds me of the weathered surface of a gourd and in some ways the moon. Very nice work. Seldom do I feel compelled to say a lot about a piece of work but this is an exceptional piece. Looks like tomorrow's WoW cover to me.....
Thanks for the kind words Mike. The carving is a new trick for me. Believe me, I went through plenty of ugly ones before I could somewhat consistantly produce something that is pleasing to most eyes. Practice definately makes you better. If you dont believe me, take a look at some of my work that I posted on this site just a year and a half ago.
Yep, Jerry, you done it again! I gotta try that someday. You've got so much going on there, yet it's totally pleasing to the eye. Carving, spiral fluting, figured grain, spalting, and a hollow form. This belongs in a museum, for sure.
