This is my first bell, I don't have a clue as to what the wood is, but it is really pretty, now the offset thingie is from the same pallet that my bowls were made of, but I added some western cedar to the bottom... that was a mistake, colors just don't match.
I wouldn't say the colors don't match. It would probably help to have an element of the cedar a little higher also. That offset wood appears to be Poplar or it could be Gum also. Was it fuzzy? As for the bell, I would say mineral stained oak, maybe. I've had some similar pieces that I worked with. Looks like you're off to a good start. Needs refining, but if the shape is pleasing to your eye, that's what counts.
I made a mistake, all three items are Italy Poplar, I was cutting sweet gum this morning and sealing it and I had that on my mind when I posted the photos. Our mold's are made in Italy and shipped to the US, I try to salvage the wood when I can, most are ruff cut 2" x 10" x 6' pallets. Thanks for your comment, it mean's alot to a newbie Wizzy
