African Sumac natural edge hollow form finished with Danish oil and buffed with the Beall system.
African Sumac is one of my favorite turning woods. It is an ugly pink/gray after you finish turning it and turns a beautiful red/brown with exposer to sun light. The sap wood stays a light yellow color for great contrast between the sap and heart woods. And sometimes I get lucky and it has the nice burl figure in the sap wood like this piece.
Hi Paul,
Great piece. I have found that the burl effect on A Sumac is actually caused by bunches of little branchlets that either were there or getting ready to form. Any thoughts?.
