8.75 x 3. Technique learned from Frank Penta at last falls Tennessee Association of Woodturners symposium. The off center "roof" and base are cherry. The birdhouse is simply a hollowed maple branch. I wish I could say that I turned the bird but it was purchased. I used my regular Nova chuck to do the multi-axis work.
Very nice. The choice of wood was very good. And leaving the bark on the house part. Gave it a very nice contrast. I would like to try offset turning one of these days. It makes people who don`t turn ask how you do that. An unnatural form in a natural form. Thats a contrast right there.
very good Jerry and jerry check your PMs Dan if Jerry doen't intruct you on this I think that I have a hand out from our club with instruction to do this bird house however I have not got one off the lathe without breaking yet seem to get catch and break it Tony
I simply loosen the chuch and angle the piece, re-tighten, cut a bit and then do the same thing all over again. It helps to use really sharp tools. Be sure to slow the lathe down a bit.
Charles, he is a great instructor. His specialties are platters and things like this bird house using multi axis with a regular chuck. He also shows alot about dyes and coloring and texturing. You will enjoy it.
