Pumpkin seed shaped vase, Ash with a Wenge spigot, 6" in dameter and about 2" thick. It has a hole drilled down in about 5" for the flowers. This is the first time I've made one of these and if was fun.
Gil, glue blocks would probably be an easier way to do it. I actually started with a piece of wood that was about 3" thick, put it between centers and turned the sides leaving a tenon on each side that was 1" in diameter. I made a jig that is held in my chuck and is shaped like a shallow bowl with a 1" hole in the center and I jam chucked the disk in that to get it shaped. When I got it shaped I removed all but a small post of the tenon, knocked that off with a chisel and sanded it smooth. I know there has to be an easier way, but I learn most things as a certified graduate of the School of Hard Knocks.
