Unknown wood

Six inch rim, 2 1/2 inches deep. wide rings, fibrous layer between rough bark and wood. I suspect it is some type of oak trowing on in the Pacific NW/West coast Canada. Anyone help to identify wood? Thanks, Tom

I could be wrong, but it looks like black locust.

I don't see the medullary rays that unmistakingly identify oak, they would be lines radiating out from center of the tree. Looks greenish, and the sapwood is similar to Mulberry.

I think it's Elm. That tough fiberous layer between the bark and sap wood has been a real paint int the #@% for me on my Elm projects.

Look closely at the end grain. Do you see little zig-zags within the rings? Sure sign of Elm, or I believe Hackberry also.

Wasn't yellow, I don't think we have mulberry or hackberry around here so by elimination, it must be elm. Thanks, Tom
