I got the order for this bowl from www.wisconsinmade.com yesterday morning, where I have some turnings listed for sale. First order since before Christmas, when most of them occur.
7 1/2" diameter, 5" high, wipe-on polyurethane finish (Minwax). Only one coat so far, nothing on the top of the bark edge.
The bark is surprisingly well-attached to the wood, considering it was cut during the warm months of the year if I remember right. It was from a neighbor's big ash tree cut down about 15 years ago.
Very nice! Most all natural edge bowls I've seen pictured have that large U shaped dip towards the middle. I really like the straight across shape at the bark line. How did you manage that?
Bill
Thanks, Bill. The tree this came from was fairly large, I think about 30" across at the base. Also, instead of being round it was oddly shaped with a few straight areas on the perimeter so I was able to cut some bowl blanks from those sections.
I really like this piece, Ken. It looks like you scooped it right out of the tree with an ice cream scoop. I like the heft it has and the straight bark complements the straight grain. Good work!
