I tried another goblet with a celtic ring. This one is Bocote with the ring made from Canarywood. The Bocote might have too much figure in the grain for something like this. It's 6.75" tall by 1.75" dia with two interlocked captive rings.
Great goblet. I'm not so sure that the bacote is too busy though. It may simply be that the bands are too dark. Maybe some holly or maple as the knot bands would do the trick. Regardless, I love the work you've done here. 8)
It is a great goblet. I agree with Doug, a little more contrast in the knot bands would have worked. Either very light wood (holly or maple) or even very dark wood (wenge or ebony) would have emphasized the bocote grain. I like dark wood with bocote myself. I think the canarywood is too close in color and is distracting. But Curt, your form, finish and turning skills still make this piece a winner.
