Now THAT is really cool!! I think it's great the way you took advantage of the grain pattern and the sapwood/heartwood difference. I can't really see what texturing you did - could I have a hint?
The power brushing accentuates the grain by removing the softer wood and leaving the harder. If you run a finger down the piece from top to bottom, the whole thing is "rippled". That's what I mean by texture.
Thanks to everyone for the comments. The brushing was done while the piece was mounted on the lathe, but with the lathe off. That part was not labor intensive, because the steel brush was mounted in the flex-shaft of a power drill.
