I have had the Idea making one of these for a while, finally got around to doing it. I'm pleased with the form on this piece, but not so much with the stand, hope to make a new one for this one soon. I have a show coming up on the 10th and this one will have to do for now.
This piece was so much fun I think I will work on a series of these, and maybe incorporate a few more Ideas I have.
Bradford Pear.
Measures 10" tall X 4 1/2" wide.
Antique oil, buffed.
Very nice looking piece, Jim. Is the reason you don't like the stand a stability issue? It has the appearance of being a little top heavy with so much of the form above the support ring and the pic of it laying on its side seems to indicate that the centre of gravity is above the ring.
Jim, The form looks great! If you make a new base, you may want to make one with the support ring up higher around the main body and legs that have the same contour as the vase and flare out at the bottom? I like these kind of turnings. Show us one with a new base if you get the chance.
Yes bobham thats one of the reasons.
the other is I would like it to have a curl at the bottom and not like it has now.
This stand is from a candle holder I didn't have time to make one trying to get more turnings ready for the show, so I just had to find one that would work for now.
BAM I hollowed it out used the DNA method as I always do then finished turned it and sanded.
The pointed bottom was the tenon before I turned it away to make the point.
