Russian Olive Hollow Form

This is almost spherical, 5"x4.5". This is the first russian olive I've turned. I really like the grain in it.

Russian olive http://extension.usu.edu/rangeplants/Woody/russianolive.htm is a nuisance tree here in Utah. It grows along ditch banks and in the marshy areas near the Great Salt Lake. The flowers give me horrible hay fever in May and June and the tree isn't pretty at all. But it has great wood.

I like the simple beading, I can never get that quite right. It sets off the grain well.

Looks pretty good from here CF. What's the thickness on it? The beads are nicely placed, but from the photo the grooves look a bit deep. It could be the natural shadows though. What tool did you use for them? The form, grain and orientation looks terrific.

The walls aren't very thin, probably around 3/8 - 1/2. The grooves were cut with the tip of a skew.

Very nice. Beautiful wood. Good shape. I wonder what it would look like if the curve went all the way to the opening instead of having a flat top.

This is really pretty. Great form, I love the finish, and I don't usually like high gloss. The only olive I tried has been with pens.
