Remember that this was ordered-----not my ideal.
Here it is off the lathe----I will have to do some sanding after it drys-----really it's done.
The pic is of the same piece of wood---cored.
What you see on the lathe is firewood.

I wish I was jesting----it gets worse-------the rest of the log is also firewood.
If I remember right most folks call it Ring shake------the inside of the log is pulled apart. I will try and get a pic of it on Sunday. This is caused by the wind twisting the tree faster than it can bend. Heck I hope that makes sence.

Ok, it's a beech tube. What is it going to be used for? A large woden sewage pipe? Actually I can see it being used as a trash bin. Turn a piece of something to fill the bottom and a top with a loose tenon for a lid. Add a handle and wahlah, a $300 trash can. Please do tell. 8)

yep.. my guess was also gonna be a drum... my bro in law teaches drums and he has been on me forever to make him a drum. i tried to tell him i was pretty limited with my minilathe!!!
