This is the second of a series of turned, fluted, dyed and limed ash vessels. It measures aobut 9 3/4 inches tall. The color is a mix of red and black aniline dyes.
Bruce those are some amazing things you're doing with the fluting and the dyes. I've never thought of Ash as being very pretty but you bring out the best in it.
I really like the colour!
what are your techniques for colouoring? what are you doing with Lime?
Lime is for Corrona's and too many of them don't mix with turning in my experience.
Thanks for the comments. The dyes are water soluble aniline dyes, just wiped on. This particular one was a mixture of red and black(two coats in this case because I wanted to make sure it was a dark red to contrast with the white.. Once the piece has been dyed, it is treated with liming wax. It's a mixture of beeswax and white pigment. The excess is then removed. It's particularly nice on oak and ash where the white stays in the grain pores.
