I've made many slimline pens before but this is my first European Pen. It's made from free Cedar that Kate found while walking the lathe dog. It has a custom fishing clip. I was on "slimline autopilot" and turned the centerband end a little short. The whole pen was turned with a 1/2 skew except for the centerband tenon which was made with a parting tool. After almost a 8 months of turning, I finally "felt" the skew's sweetspot and didn't have any catches. I was so impressed with the finish it left. I was able to start sanding with 400 grit!!! That's the first time I've ever started sanding above 120 grit! Woohoo! I won't get used to that though. I seem to rely on the the 60 and 80 grit gouges quite a bit
Well done!
The thing to keep in mind with sanding, though, is that no matter how nice a finish that skew leaves, it is always good to drop back to at least 320 to open those pores, and even out the finish. Some finish will leave streaks in anything that is uneven. Even though it looks good to us, the finish will sometimes show otherwise.
