Well I have to admit, it does take a lot of time. Just completed another, but I pierced the entire thing. I will post a photo soon. As to a earlier comment about fatigue. Yes my hands do tend to cramp up sometimes. All piercing is done with a small carbide dental bur in a high speed air driven handpiece.
Thanks so much for the calander nomination. I am now getting ready to demo this for our turning group (Rocky Mountain Woodturners) this week. I hope all goes well and can keep people interested. (sometimes is like watching paint dry)
Another exquisite piece Phil. The non-pierced curve that you have included is really original. As with your other pieces, the shape of this one is very appealing. Sure would like to know how you plan the piercing thing. Do you draw it out first, or how??? I'm too far away to go to your demo...
Jim
Hi Jim Usally I draw out what I want to pierce, then go at it. If it doesn't look right, I'll modify it to my likeing. The demo went very well. I think people got a taste for this kind of work. I guess we will see if any attempts show up in our show and tell portion of our meetings.
