Just curious and wanting to understand these forms better. What was the thinking for the lid material and looking at the finished piece, is it the best material for this composition?
Rev, on this piece I tried a couple of different woods for the lid. I didn't have any more of the blackwood with sap wood. When I used the dark blackwood it looked funny over the sap wood section. When I used maple it didn't work. Ebony looked like a dark void. I settled on the madrone, witch I felt struck a nice ballance between the dark blackwood and the sapwood. And the cocobolo matched the dark portion of the blackwood. May not be everyone's taste but I like it. thanks for the feedback.
