Well, here's my first project involving both metal spinning and woodturning. The body is spun from aluminum, 2 halves one with a bead and one without and then epoxied together, cut with grey & white pads saturated with lacquer thinner and then buffed to polish on a buffing wheel, no finish. The top and bottom finials are african blackwood with friction polish. Overall dimensions are 3 1/4" dia. x 7 1/2" tall.
And some folks go nuts over the "hot spots" on high gloss wood pieces. You don't have the hot spots but a mirror in the round. It is a beautiful piece. How you going to split your time between wood and metal spinning. 8)
Thanks guys, this is becoming a second addiction! Unfortunately the raw material for metal spinning doesn't grow on trees (in fact it's stinkin' expensive!) but it's way fun. As for splitting my time between the two, the idea is to eventually get good enough at metal spinning that I can merge the two in a plethora of projects and take my work to whole new levels not commonly seen in either arena.
Cool ornament, Chris.
Try Home Depot or Lowes for copper sheet.
Or maybe craft places like Michaels.
Copper sheet is fairly soft and thin, maybe even brass sheet.

It beginning to look alot like Christmas...... I don't think that I've started the ornaments I planned on doing 3 years ago. It looks great. How thick of a sheet do you start with/ Are pop cans a source?
