Nice piece. Questions: How did you dry this to keep the pith in tact? Did you turn it dry or green? Walnut is notorious for cracking at the pith. But I've heard the denatured alcohol drying process will prevent it. Just wondering if that's what you did. I have a bunch of walnut and I think I'd like to make several platters as well.
the wood was pretty green and if you look close there is a small heat crack just outside the center. i haven't got the sanding part down that good yet. by the time this was done it had some scary vibs. in it.
