That is actually heartwood inclusion from a piece of an ornamental maple log. The wood was BLOOD red while I was turning it.

Finish is Mahoney. I was going to shoot it with lacquer, but for two pieces, I wasn't going to set up. Just not worth it, and I don't think it would have done justice.

Pretty nice stuff for a guy from Omaha. A very pleasing shape, no visible tool marks, and Mahoney finish is hard to beat.
