This is a black agate 10 inch dia covered bowl. Same drying and processing procedure as shown with the Red Dalmation double bowl peice yesterday.

From the last post:This is a five peice double bowl of Red Dalmation Wood. Size 19 inches tall by 9 inches in dia. Rough turned, boiled several hours, air dried about 5-6 weeks in the open shop to about 20 % MC and then into the kiln to below 5%. Finish turned and finished with high gloss floor polyurethane. A couple weeks later wet sanded with 1000, water and soap and buffed with a cotton rag and car buffing compound.

Very nice pieces, Jim. I envy you your local wood but I'll stay well North of Amazonas, thank you.

I've tried rubbing compound on a couple of pieces; it worked well but not well enough to use every time.

Maybe you are not waiting long enough after applying the last coat of finish before wet sanding and buffing. I wait a couple of weeks so the finish gets to its maximum hardness.
