Just a little NE bowl I turned today from white birch for a special order. It is 2 3/8" tall at the highest point and 3 3/4" diameter. It was a pretty standard branch section with one high point, so to give it a bit more character and movement, I adjusted it off center a bit to get it to "lean" and to get one really low side. The customer also wanted a very light piece, so I bleached it and then used Briwax as the finish. Has a nice fine sheen.
Did you love the way the birch turned? I turned a couple of pieces recently and just loved it. Both pieces were nearly as smooth to turn as apple. Sooo nice. You did great. I'm betting the customer loves it. 8)
Thanks guys. Birch is a great turning wood, yeah Rev, I love the stuff...too bad it's hard to get around here, I'd turn it all day. Carves very well too.
Thanks Rick, I didn't even know the results had come out yet. 5th place isn't bad, still trying to figure out who Jacques thinks my work is so close to...might have to email him.
