I received a call back in March or April from a local farming family to turn some keep-sake pieces from ash trees that grew in the front yard of their old house. The house has been torn down and the property sold and redeveloped. Here are three of the nine pieces I?ve turned so far including four salad bowls and five hollow forms. This has been a fun project.
The largest piece is 12?D x 7?H. with a desert ironwood collar. The piece on the left/front is 7.25"D x 4"H and the form on the right/front is 7.25"D x 4"H with a desert ironwood collar.
Those will be some wonderful pieces for them to reminisce with. And they'll probably be around for a few generations to come as well.
Beautiful work, Paul.
Doug - I think it was a design thing that made me put a collar on that one. When I start a piece I usually have a pretty good idea what I'm going to do and this one had a collar on it. The edge of the collar is about 1/32" thick so it doesn't interupt the flow of the shape. (does that sound like "art speak" or what, yikes)
Nice Job!
Looks like the lower left one is from a crotch, beautiful figuring in it.
They all look great and they should be proud to display them in thee home!
