This hollow form has curl that almost surrounds the entire piece. It came from the stump of a Silver Maple that had all that Ambrosia in it that I posted a while back. This is also the first time making a finial for one of my hollow forms.
Measures 10 1/4" tall with the finial and 6 1/4" without it and is 5" wide, finish is wipe on poly and buffed on the Beall!
critiques, suggestions, and opinions are appreciated and welcome!
I love it without the finial. Even with the finial it ain't half bad for a TN boy. I'd bet Chris will comment soon and he's a better judge than I am, but you asked for it. IMHO, the drop in the middle of the finial is a bit too fat. Also, I feel like the height is just a bit too tall.
Again, Jim, this is only my opinion and will only get you a cup of coffee if you have a couple of bucks to go with it. Even then we're talking about coffee at Micky D's. The piece is beautiful as is and not worth changing on my account. Just my thoughts on what I'd do different. 8)
Pretty work, Jimbo! I have decided that the HF looks more complete somehow with the finial than without it. The shape of the HF is very nice but somehow it looks even more elegant with the finial handle.
I like it as is. It works very well with or without the finial. As to thickness of the finial; In general the thinner the better (up to a point) but on thes piece I feel that a much thinner one would be out of proportion to the body of the HF.
