Slotted Vase 5148

This is a white poplar vase, dyed with aniline dyes. Six spiral slots were cut in it with a router while the piece was mounted on the lathe. It measures about 10 1/2 inches tall.

These are fun pieces, aren't they Bruce? It looks like the finish is softer than your usual finishes, or has one not been applied yet?

I picture myself doing this with a router and the piece becoming pieces very quickly, nice job. was the router work freehand?

There are a couple of coats of finish on it, but I wanted to get a picture with a minimum of glare. The router was held in a sled which was moved along as the piece was rotated.
