This is a Norfolk Island Pine hollow form that the bottom is 3/16. The entire bottom is translucient.(sp)It was soaked in Linseed oil for 24 hrs and placed in the sun for 12 hrs. That helps bring out the colors.
I've been thinking of submerging some of my ambrosia maple pieces to see if they react the same at all. I read about doing something similar to this on Ron Kent's site. I love how this turned out. I'm very impressed.
It was fully submerged for 24 hours. I read your supposed to do 12 in and 12 out but I just put it in at night and take it out the next night. You need to wipe it down real good and let it sit for a few weeks before starting to finish. I sand it to 600 before starting to soak and then after drying for two weeks I start back at 240 and work my way back up. The inside top and sides meet in a slightly rounded cove just over 3/16. Dimentions are 8.5 wide 8.25 high. The wormey Ash was also soaked. Haven't tried Ambrosia Maple.
