This was another saved piece of firewood. Went over to a lady in our church to look at her car. Walked inside afterwards and sat down to make a phone call. Guess what I saw. My eyes lit up like a kid on christmas. So I made this for her as a thank you for the piece. Should get a few more pieces out of this log. I filled the wormholes with a turquoise looking sand I found at the craft store. I didn't feel like waiting on some inlace or something of the sort. It looks good I think.
3 3/4" tall
3" wide
fun fun fun.
Loving the shape. Not loving the sand. It is murder on your tools. The color isn't doing anything for me either. As spalted as the wood is I think that coffee might have been a better choice. It would have looked like more spalting or some bark inclusion. But, that's only my opinion. You could put it on the shelf at the local craft show and sell it for more than anyother piece you put out. Just not my favorite. 8)
Well Rev, it may be bad technique but I filled with the sand after I turned the piece. So it didn't get a chance to ruin my tools. It was my first time filling with anything so I'm just happy it turned out as good as it did. I will eventually order some inlace or something. I thought about the coffee, I just wanted to add some color to the piece that's all. But what you said is right though and makes real good sense. Thanks man. Maybe next time I'll break out the Juan Valdez and do some packing.
