winged bowl hanging system
I had an offer to buy the maple burl winged bowl/platter piece that I made, but with one request, the client wanted to hang from the wall without aid of a shelf. Being a proud woodturner, I couldn't bring myself to drill a bracket into the back of the piece. The I thought how cool would it be if he (the buyer) could change the hanging orientation at will?
So I bought a couple of plate hangers, cut them up for parts and turned a rimmed cup (chinese elm) that hugs the outer profile of the inset bowl, with no bottom. Left a lip on the inside for the nail or screw to rest on and put it together. Here's the idea as I built it and the piece successfully hanging on the wall. Simply turn the piece and it hangs in a new orientation. Necessity is the mother of invention.
