flyboy goblet

Here is a detail shot of the bowl of the goblet. The Black Palm wood reminds me of leopard print when turned. The shape and refinement is sort of plain by measurement of this group's talents but I guess that the exercise in turning a challenging item is one of the reasons behind the challenges.

I went down to the local Rockler store during lunch last week with MarleyTurned. I had several pieces selected and he picked up this piece of black palm and said "hey, check this out." It splinters a bit when roughing from square to round but then cuts nice when rounded. The inside looks like a leopard.

The photo does not do it justice. I don't think I would have ever tried to use black palm, but the result is impressive.

That's a great looking goblet and it has to take the prize for the most unique wood. It really makes for a nice goblet!
