Brazilian Pepper Burl Vessel

This is one of those pieces that sat on my shelves for the last 1.5 years waiting to be finished. Brazilian Pepper Burl 8" dia. x 6 1/2" tall, 1/4" wall thickness. The opening is 2 3/4" which seemed huge to me after turning so many small opening hollow forms since I roughed this one out. As you can see, this type of Pepper cracks like there's no tomorrow. I left them unfilled as it lent an aged feeling to the piece. Sanded to 600, Finished with 3 coats Behlen's Top Coat Lacquer cut back & buffed to a satin finish.

That's some pretty interesting wood. It almost has a ceramic look to it. I like the shape and the size of the opening too.
