thanks JT for the comment the sain is blue made by "Chestnut" its a spirit stain & on checking up you would be able to get it from Craft supplies usa,I applied the stain whilst it was still on the lathe then I removed most by using a cloth whilst it was still wet & turning, this removed the excess I then polished it with a plain wax polish ( sycamore wood)
