It is not always easy to explain my thoughts in a foreign language, perhaps burl is not the correct word to use. The elm has been staying in a garden for a couple of decades before the street was changed and the tree cut down. From time to time the top and the branches where cut off and new growing up. The "burl" that was created at the top of the tree was the material for my turning, there was quite a lot of decay. What will you name such a piece in your language?
Trehelge, I think what you are describing is a crotch, where limbs have been cut back and others have grown out from the same spot. More like a bud union. Really doesn't matter. Your work is very nice as is the wood that you used. I'm sure it gave you some cause for concern, but you came through with much grace in your piece. 8)
