"Tempest"

This is a piece that I have been playing with for about 7 months. Total of about 16 hours in on it. Maple burl hollow form, carved, pyrography (hatch marks), honey locust thorns (feet), chestnut stain (black) under black gesso. Final finish yet to be determined. 6" tall x 5 1/4" diameter. The design was a collaboration with Terry Scott & his work when he came to visit earlier this year from New Zealand.

Thanks Rick. It does have a clay look & feel, that is from the gesso.

My daughter says that "that looks impossible to make out of wood. It would take me seven years instead of 7 months." High praise from a 10 year old.

Tell her thanks from me Ned. I guess we shouldn't tell her that the actual work only took 16 hours, the seven months was the design period.

That is really cool Chris. What do you carve it with, hand tools or something like a dremel, or both? I really like the thorn legs too. You get high praise from a 52 year old too!
