These are fun to make aren't they? And Osage Orange seems to lend itself to it so well. I like this one and the size of it must have been interesting to work with.
Interesting contrast between the grain direction on the rim, and the apparently perpendicular grain direction inside the bowl. I had to look at it several times to be sure (I think) the grain is all the same. Great work!
Very nice Rick. I agree with the Duck, the grain does look almost like it changes direction. What did you do with the ends of the slab. I've done a couple similar slab type bowls but never know how to finish the ends.
Thanks guys. All my fingers are still attached, but did whack a couple of knuckles. The 'grain' does seem to change direction in the bowl, but I think it's cause we're looking at growth rings? not real grain. Does that make sense? Curt, I just kept the ends rough cut and applied oil until it stopped taking it.
Cool bowl Rick, the bowl form flows nicely through the wings a difficult task on one this size. I like the natural edge on the sides as well, terrific work.
