Layers of Cedar and Sassafras were used to create this clam shell look. This is not a wet or hot press that was used to create the ripple effect. The pattern is drawn out, the center if the first to be cut then time with a rasp is used to shape each wave. We have made these using solid woods as well as layers...each is a true beauty. This Clam Shell measures 17 inches across.

That's an beautiful bowl. After reading about the technique it makes it even more amazing. Thats a lot of filing! Have you ever tried using some sort of power tools, drum sander or something. The end result is beautiful and made more so by the effort to get there.
