This is the piece I mentioned in the forum that I managed to do yesterday without hurting myself. Did have one problem with it. While hollowing, the tenon broke off. Still had enough dimple from initial turning between centers to allow me to remount between centers and turn another tenon. Notice the figure running beside the whole. This piece is from the same log as the large 18" bowl. It is sitting on rag to keep it upright as the tenon is still in place. Want to do more inside finish work. It will eventually be 6 3/4"D x 3 1/4"H
Glad to see you back on the horse Phil. That stripe of figure is striking. The shape and hole size almost begs for a collar, but would that cover up to much? Maybe a carved collar?
Really nice piece, Phil. I understand that you are not done with it yet, but is that a spot of tear out on the upper left? The flame running past the opening is beautiful. The piece as a whole looks real well done. Nice and smooth. Thinking of continuing with the DO inside and out? Or are you going to switch over to some other final finish? 8)
Yeah Doug there is a bad spot. I am gonna have to back and fix, that is another reason the tenon is still on. Oh well, it may be awhile since today (Sat) is the last day I have before heading to OK and today is practically full of needed to do's before heading out.
