If you still have a bit of thickness, I would return it to the lathe for 3 issues. One, take that corner off at the transitions, top and bottom, where you transition into the flat side. Two, round out that flat side. Don't know why "flatness" doesn't work except that maybe our eye wants the piece to be "round" in both directions. Third, introduce some features, grooves, burn lines, etc., that will camoflauge the glue line.

I agree w/Doug. A more rounded shape would help. You could also turn an "ornate" cover for it and have a very nice covered pot.
